Wellness Matters

The journey through medical training whether in residency or fellowship is intense. Long hours, emotional cases, and high levels of responsibility can take a significant toll on mental health. For those in psychiatry, the emotional demands of the specialty can further increase the risk of stress, anxiety, and burnout.

In response to these challenges, I introduced Wellness Wednesday, an initiative to support residents’ and fellows’ ongoing mental and emotional well-being. What began as a check-in for our psychiatry residents has now expanded to include our fellowship programs.

Trainees receive a brief, optional survey to encourage self-reflection and provide a confidential space to share their feelings. All responses remain confidential. If a serious concern is identified, it will be addressed thoughtfully in collaboration with program leadership to ensure a supportive and caring response.

The well-being of residents and fellows is foundational to their success. We’re committed to helping keep your wellness fuel tank full throughout your training.

So, how’s your gas tank this week?
